Next Week In Online Tasting

There is no other way to put it – virtual whisky drinkers have a blockbuster week coming up. Starting on Tuesday 23rd and finishing on Sunday 28th there are seventeen whisky events taking place.

Tuesday gets the week off to a good start with a superb evening from the team at SE23 Whisky Club. They have put together a Bruichladdich evening, with six drams available from their core range and some special drams, including the 3D Peat Proposal. The next evening sees the London Whisky Club host the indie bottler Murray McDavid, sampling some of their range in what promises to be an excellent night.

Thursday then sees a whopping six events. First up is Starmore Boss with a world whisky tasting, as well as Irish Drink Shop entering the virtual whisky world with a Gelston’s tasting. SMWS will also host their monthly virtual event, and East City Whisky Club have organised an evening with Duncan Taylor brand ambassador Sam Peacock to discuss their products. Mackmyra, the ubiquitous Swedish whisky brand, will also be discussing their core range at a bargain price.

The star of Thursdays tasting events, however, is undoubtedly The Whisky Show’s Waxy Masterclass. For £200, whisky drinkers with too much money can join the illustrious line-up of Sukhinder Singh, Jonny McMillan, Angus McRaild, Billy Abbott, Lora Hemy and Serge Valentin in sampling six drams which the hosts believe represent the much sought after waxiness that comes with certain whiskies from a certain period. An incredible lineup, including an early 1970s Clynelish that Jonny describes as ‘brimming with waxy honey notes.’

Friday continues the theme of excellent events with five virtual tastings. Inverurie Whisky Shop customers will be enjoying drams from the criminally underrated Glencadam, while The Wee Dram will host their Winter Warmer event. The Good Spirits Company will be providing six drams to those who attend their American Tasting event, and the Sussex Whisky Appreciation Group will be joined by Conor Ryan from Pearse Lyons Distillery. Both events are, however, sold out. Friday also sees The Whisky Show continue, with a Longmorn Masterclass.

Saturday sees events from The Wee Dram, North East Whisky Appreciation Society, and The Whisky Show, who hold their Winter Warmer, Artful Dodger and Gordon & MacPhail events respectively. The best event of the week then takes place on Sunday. The Whisky Show’s Old and Rare week ends with an Old-Style Peat Masterclass. Peat is often misinterpreted as one-dimensional, and this event aims to showcase the variety of peat and its usage in different parts of Scotland through the ages, as well as different distilleries, many of whom had their own peat sources and operated their own floor maltings. This truly is a once in a lifetime opportunity to sample such unique drams.

At present, there are 62 online events listed on the Tastings page. There are some gems that are worth checking out!
